Doppelgangers are hermaphroditic subterranean monsters who propagate by impregnating other humanoids. Such offspring are called “changelings,” and their true natures are only discovered when they reach adolescence (at which point the changeling possesses an irresistible urge to return to the underworld). They tend to operate in small cabals with very specific and often esoteric goals, but do not form communal bonds with each other in ways humans understand. Doppelgangers stalk (and sometimes capture) victims for months or years, so they can safely glean information about the victim’s mannerisms and memories in order to accurately portray them when they replace them.

All of their spells are considered natural abilities, and therefore the effects of their spells cannot be countered, spell-turned, or dispelled by magic (the GM may treat such ailments effected by their spells as either curses or diseases, depending on the nature of the spell). When a doppelganger makes a spell check using one of its spell-like abilities, it uses Smart (with advantage).
