Lore
A living, crystalline chariot of the divine descends from the heavens: four faces turned to the cardinal winds, bearing the visage of man, lion, ox, and eagle. Its four wings blaze with silent motion, wielding arcs of energy resembling flaming swords.
Beneath it whirl wheels of fire nested within wheels, each rim inscribed with countless, ever-blinking eyes. The Cherubim is a throne-bearer of divine mystery, a guardian stationed at the gates of sanctity since time’s beginning. Light pours from it in prismatic cascades, too holy to behold, yet every aspect of its being sees, knows, and judges. It emanates a chorus of a thousand voices, serving as the melodious guardian of the god that precedes it. Cherubim are unshakable wardens of holy places, bound to the presence of divinity, and moved only when divine will stirs them.
Cherubim are best deployed as angelic wards of forgotten temples, divine prisons, or guardians left behind in the ruins of a god’s fall, acting as puzzle-like obstacles rather than conventional enemies. They do not pursue trespassers—they stand guard. In battle, they wield legendary magic, possess various immunities, and project an aura of resistance to all elements. The prismatic gaze of their many eyes can effect a panoply of debilitating statuses, and flaming swords, which they hold defiantly with spectral limbs beneath their wings, strike all aggressors without hesitation. The GM should emphasize their alien nature: the Cherubim functions as a chariot or throne of the gods, but its exact metaphysical reality is inscrutable to mortals. While they are Guardians by ethos, they cannot stray from their divine purpose. These angels are vulnerable only to shadow and necrotic magic.
