Lore

You see two green pin-pricks of light illuminate a misshapen mound of flesh at the end of the hallway, its breath labored, its enormous girth emanating a horrific stench that reeks of carrion and rot. Then you hear the sound of the horde approaching, a hundred thunderous footfalls heralding your doom.

Abominations are dimwitted brutes forged in the eldritch muck of the Outer Realms. These 8’ tall bloated fiends lumber in mobs through blights and hells, their tumor-covered forms barely recognizable as humanoid. They attack with enormous claws and a maw outfitted with rows of serrated, diseased teeth, but most terrible of all is their lidless gaze: all who look upon an Abomination are subject to a sickly green light that causes victims to freeze in place upon witnessing the horror of its inhumanity. Abominations regenerate rapidly and easily shrug off pain. Such mindless creatures have no place in the natural order, acting instead as foot soldiers to more powerful masters beyond their understanding.

As front-line heavy hitters, Abominations operate in demoralizing hordes that overwhelm their foes. These killing machines are driven only by their insatiable hunger for flesh, and their masters manipulate them by appealing to this base instinct. Their pea-sized brains only allow for a modicum of thought, making their minds barely recognizable to psychic magic. A creature subject to an Abomination’s paralytic gaze remains afflicted until the Abomination’s concentration is broken, but it can attack without breaking its concentration. Abominations are immune to their own gaze.
