Dire Bees are the size of hounds, darting with needle-like precision. Armored by yellow and black chitin, with jaws strong enough to shear bone, they dive with stingers pulsing with venom that melts flesh. These giant insects exist to serve the needs of the hivemind: feed, defend, and propagate. In the wild, such colonies dominate their surroundings, reshaping local ecosystems to support the ever-growing hive. Depending on the nature of their biome, Dire Bees may adapt various mutations, from maleficent, heat-balling, and vorpal breeds, to undead and noxious varieties impacted by nearby blights.

Dire Bees are swarm predators who use sheer numbers to overwhelm their foes. Their motivations are machinelike: protect their hive, expand their territory, harvest food, and in the presence of a Queen (use the colossal tag to create such a monstrosity), they become more tactical and cunning. A Dire Bee’s greatest strength lies in its ability to summon others of its kind via telepathic link to the hivemind within a one-mile radius. To heighten the danger of an encounter, ambush PCs in dense woods, choke caverns with swarms, or awaken sleeping colonies when they least expect it. Remember, once stirred, the hive will not relent until its agitators are annihilated or driven out of its territory.
